Who is ANKO?

ANKO is a non-profit association founded in 1999 by friends and supporters of the Atlanta and Nuremberg Sister City relationship. ANKO encourages contacts between Germany and Atlanta and their respective regions. ANKO strengthens co-operation between Germany and the United States, especialy between the cities and supports common social, cultural, sporting, scientific and economic activities.

The Atlanta Nuremberg Committee has a counterpart in Atlanta: the Sister City Committee for Nuremberg Atlanta (NACO). Its members function as contacts for the concerns of the Nuremberg committee members and coordinate the activities in Atlanta.

Thanks to its location in the Northwestern part of the state of Georgia, Atlanta benefits from a mild climate, near-by mountaines and lakes, and ist central location. Founded in 1837 as a railwail junction, Atlanta qzuickly developed into an international economic center and traffic hub. With a population of three million in the conurbation, the city is the economic and cultureal cnter of the flourishing Southeastern US. Atlanta is also a sporting capital: The city hosted the summer Olympic Games in 1996. The traditional Southern flair with magnificent manor houses complements the look of modern skycrapers and shows the city's dynamic development. A strong presence of German companies (e.g. Siemens, Porsche, Nürmont, Telekom, SAP-SI) offers good business opportunities. Many of America's "Top500" business are headquartered in Atlanta, e.g. Coca-Cola, CNN, UPS, The Home Depot and Delta Airlines.
